The Great Commission

February 18 & 19, 2017

Sacramentum is the Latin word for “oath.” In ancient Rome, when soldiers prepared for war, they made a sacramentum to the Empire; that they would be loyal to the Empire no matter what. The early Christians came to associate this word with the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion. Through the Sacraments, we pledge our loyalty not to the Empire, but to Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. But the sacraments are more than an oath of loyalty. They’re also a means of grace. They’re channels through which God makes his grace and presence known. In this 2-part series, we explore the significance behind the Sacraments of Baptism and Communion..

Disappointment with God

Disappointment sets in when our experience of life is different than what we had hoped. All disappointments are of course rough, but the most painful kind of disappointment is disappointment with God. Disappointment with God can leave our soul feeling bitter and hurt, wondering why God doesn’t intervene and make things right.

In this series, we draw from the bestselling book by Philip Yancey and explore three common questions related to our disappointment with God: Is God hidden? Is God Silent? And, is God unfair?

Part 2 – Is God Silent?

Christmas at the Movies

We all have our favorite Christmas movies, the ones we watch year after year while curled up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and maybe a cup of hot chocolate. In this Advent series, we draw out the theological and spiritual themes of 5 popular holiday movies and the lessons these films teach us about the timeless truths of Christmas. .

Earn. $ave. Give

Money tends to be a controversial topic in most circles, but that should not be the case with us as Christ-followers. Jesus was clear, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (Matthew 6:21 NLT). The truth is, what we do with our finances is an important way of expressing and living out our Christian faith. To John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, the task was simple: earn all you can, save all you can, give all you can. In this series, we explore Wesley’s 3 rules for money.

Part 2 – $ave all you can

creation to confusion

The stories of Genesis 1-11 comprise one of the most fascinating and yet confusing parts of the Bible. Their precise background and meaning continue to be a mystery for a number of people. Are these stories literal? Figurative? Maybe both? Where did they come from, and why are they in the Bible?

In this series, we’ll dig into the 4 big stories that make up these chapters—the Creation of the Universe, the Fall of Humankind, Noah’s Ark, and the Tower of Babel—and discover what these accounts have to teach us about God, the world, and ourselves.

Searching for Truth

We’re all searching.
Sometimes the search is easy–simply type the question and the answer pops up. But, other times, our questions are complicated and the answers are difficult to see and even harder to articulate.

24 Hours that changed the World

Jesus lived to be about 33 years old, we believe. But the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) mainly focus on the last 3 years of his life. And, within those 3 years, they devote much of their attention to the last 24 hours. That’s what we are going to be focusing on in this series as we draw spiritual insights that will affect not only our lives here on earth but into eternity as well.
